Cyber Task Force
SAFE STREETS TASK FORCE
During 1994, the Buffalo Division formed the Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF)
which is comprised of Agents and officers from the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco
Firearms and Explosives (BATF), New York State Parole, New York State Police,
Amherst Police Department, Erie County Probation Department and the Buffalo Police
Department. The task force targets, disrupts and dismantles criminal enterprises
in the form of violent street gangs. The Buffalo Division SSTF investigates these
gangs through proactive, multi-agency coordinated efforts. These gangs are the
most violent criminal gangs and organizations operating in Western New York.
JOINT TERRORISM TASK FORCE
The Western New York Joint Terrorist Task Force's (JTTF) mission is to prevent,
detect, deter, and investigate attacks perpetrated by domestic and international
terrorists in the Western District of New York. Founded in 2001, the JTTF
investigates the activities of both international and domestic terrorist
organizations. The JTTF also investigates all criminal activities, including
the acquisition and garnishment of funds, weapons, explosives, false identifications,
and other means, undertaken by terrorists to function. Additionally, the
JTTF works with all local, state, and federal agencies, as well as the private
sector, to establish appropriate responses to terrorist attacks. The JTTF
is comprised of investigative personnel from over twenty federal, state and
local law enforcement and intelligence community agencies.
HEALTH CARE TASK FORCE
The Buffalo Office established a task force for the purpose of investigating
federal health care violations. The Western New York Health Care Fraud Task
Force is made up of agencies from The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Health
and Human Services, United States Postal Inspection Service, Internal Revenue
Service, Food and Drug Administration, United States Attorney's Office and
the Department of Defense. The Task Force works closely with private insurers
and many other local and state law enforcement agencies to combat widespread
fraud in the health care industry.
