Today, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Buffalo Field Office, Laurie J. Bennett, Captain John R. Hibsch of the New York State Police, and Chief Roger Sager of the Bradford, Pennsylvania, Police Department announce the arrest of Timothy Dean Peterson, a resident of Bradford, Pennsylvania. Peterson was arrested without incident on March 13, 2007, by FBI Special Agents and Bradford police officers at his residence.

The criminal complaint filed in federal District Court in Buffalo, New York, alleges Peterson traveled in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in illicit contact with a 14 year old child and using the internet to knowingly entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

These charges stem from an investigation conducted by the New York State Police based in Olean, New York, the Bradford, Pennsylvania, Police Department, and the FBI's Jamestown, New York, office. The FBI acknowledges the professionalism and hard work of investigators in the New York State Police and Bradford Police Department during this investigation.

Peterson's initial appearance was before United States Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott on March 13, 2007. Peterson was remanded to the United States Marshal's Service pending a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday, March 15, 2007.

It should be noted that the fact that an individual has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

This investigation continues.
