Today, Special Agent in
Charge of the FBI's Buffalo Field Office, Laurie J. Bennett, Captain
John R. Hibsch of the New York State Police, and Chief Roger Sager of
the Bradford, Pennsylvania, Police Department announce the arrest of
Timothy Dean Peterson, a resident of Bradford, Pennsylvania. Peterson
was arrested without incident on March 13, 2007, by FBI Special Agents
and Bradford police officers at his residence.
The criminal complaint filed in federal District Court in Buffalo, New
York, alleges Peterson traveled in interstate commerce with the intent
to engage in illicit contact with a 14 year old child and using the
internet to knowingly entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
These charges stem from an investigation conducted by the New York State
Police based in Olean, New York, the Bradford, Pennsylvania, Police
Department, and the FBI's Jamestown, New York, office. The FBI acknowledges
the professionalism and hard work of investigators in the New York State
Police and Bradford Police Department during this investigation.
Peterson's initial appearance was before United States Magistrate Judge
Hugh B. Scott on March 13, 2007. Peterson was remanded to the United
States Marshal's Service pending a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday,
March 15, 2007.
It should be noted that the fact that an individual has been charged
with a crime is merely an accusation; the individual is presumed innocent
until and unless proven guilty.
