Man Sentenced to 13 Years Under Federal Gun Laws

BUFFALO, NY—Antonio Williams, 56, of Buffalo  who pleaded guilty to being  a felon in possession of  firearms and ammunition as an armed career offender, was sentenced to 13 years  in prison by Chief United States District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara , Acting U.S. Attorney Kathleen M. Mehltretter of the Western District of New York announced today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, who handled the case, stated that the defendant was charged under the federal firearms statute after several firearms were recovered from the defendant's residence during a search by federal agents.  A criminal background check revealed the defendant had four prior felony convictions.  Due to the number of prior felony convictions the defendant was sentenced as an armed career offender.

The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Laurie Bennett.
