MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO USING THE INTERNET TO ENTICE
MINORS TO ENGAGE IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY

BUFFALO, N.Y.--Anthony E. Sloan, 49, of Rochester, New York, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny, to two felony charges of using an interstate facility to entice minors to engage in illegal sexual activity, U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn of the Western District of New York announced today.  The use of an interstate facility to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and maximum penalty of life in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, and a term of supervised release up to life.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who handled the case, stated that the defendant admitted to enticing a 15 year old boy from Batavia, NY over the internet to engage in illegal sexual activity. The defendant met this minor through the website www.silverdaddies.com , and engaged in the illegal sexual activity in or about March of 2007. The defendant admitted that in December of 2007, he began communicating online with a detective from the Batavia Police Department, who was acting in an undercover capacity as a 14 year old male from Batavia, NY. During the internet chats, the defendant used the screen name "DAD4SONNEWYORK" and arranged to meet the 14 year old male on December 21, 2007 at the Rite-Aid drug store in Batavia, NY.  On December 21, 2007, the defendant was arrested at the Rite-Aid drug store.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood.  In February 2006,  the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.  Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.  For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.

The plea was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Laurie Bennett, Special Agent In Charge, the Batavia Police Department, under the direction of Chief Darryl Sehm, and the Genesee County District Attorney's Office, under the direction of District Attorney Lawrence Friedman.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. EST, in Buffalo, N.Y., in front of U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.
