MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CONSPIRING TO COMMIT TRADE SECRET THEFT FROM CORNING INCORPORATED

ROCHESTER, N.Y.–Yeong C. Lin, 67, of Fountain Valley, California, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit trade secret theft, U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn of the Western District of New York announced today. Conspiracy to commit a federal crime carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, or both.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, stated that the defendant, between December 1999 and 2002, conspired with others to take without authorization and obtain and possess the trade secret information belonging to Corning Incorporated (“Corning”) as it pertained to Corning’s process to produce Thin Film Transistor (“TFT”) Liquid Crystal Display (“LCD”) glass. In pleading guilty, Lin admitted to his role in obtaining Corning’s trade secret on behalf of a Taiwanese corporation that was interested in manufacturing TFT LCD glass to compete with Corning.

The plea was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Laurie J. Bennett.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. EST, in Rochester, N.Y., in front of U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
