MAN SENTENCED IN FIREARMS CASE
BUFFALO, N.Y.--John J. Mikula, 44, of Cheektowaga, NY, who was convicted of being an unlawful user of marijuana in possession of firearms and ammunition, on May 14, 2007, was sentenced to a time-served sentence (19 months imprisonment) and a period of 3 years supervised release by U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny, U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn of the Western District of New York announced today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, who handled the case, stated that the defendant had been convicted of possessing firearms and ammunition, while being an unlawful user of marijuana. The investigation which led to Mikula's conviction began after federal law enforcement became concerned that Mikula appeared to be planning to attack an abortion provider, as well as local judges, police officers and prosecutors .
