DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO 48 MONTHS  IN TRADE SECRET THEFT CASE

RE: UNITED STATES v. JONATHAN C. SANDERS

Terrance P. Flynn, United States Attorney for the Western District of New York, announced that Jonathan C. Sanders, age 37, of Salvisa, Kentucky, was sentenced by the Honorable Charles J. Siragusa, United States District Court Judge, to 48 months in prison, fined $20,000, and directed to pay a special assessment penalty of $100 in connection with his guilty plea on January 17, 2006, to conspiracy to commit trade secret theft.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, stated that on January 17, 2006, Sanders pled guilty to conspiracy to commit trade secret theft. Sanders admitted that between December 1999 and December 2001, he conspired with others to take without authorization and sell the trade secret information belonging to Corning Incorporated (“Corning”) as it pertained to Corning’s process to produce Thin Filter Transistor (“TFT”) Liquid Crystal Display (“LCD”) glass so that the trade secret would fall into the possession, and to benefit, of a corporation based in Taiwan that was interested in manufacturing TFT LCD glass to compete with Corning.

The conviction in this case was the culmination of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Karen Spangenberg.
