   Mr. Lanser grew up in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1986 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed as an Engineer with both General Motors Corporation and with Marquip, Inc., overseeing factory installations and start-ups in Europe and North America .

Mr. Lanser was appointed FBI Special Agent (SA) in April, 1989, and was assigned to the Tampa Division, Orlando Resident Agency. His White Collar Crime investigations lead to convictions in money laundering, bank fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, and bankruptcy fraud cases. He was also case agent on several Violent Crime investigations, and worked several Major Drug Trafficking Organizations during TDY assignments to Legat Mexico City and Legat Madrid .

In 1996 SA Lanser was transferred to the San Juan Division as the Technical Advisor. He was involved in successful Violent Crime, Drug, and Public Corruption investigations. In 1999 he was appointed Supervisory Special Agent of the Integrated Technologies Squad in San Juan and managed the division's Cyber, TTA, ET, CART, and Information Technology Programs. His squad supported all FBI programs.

In January, 2003, SSA Lanser was appointed Unit Chief of the Forensic Audio, Video, and Image Analysis Unit (FAVIAU)/Operational Technology Division (OTD). He managed the forensic analysis of Digital Evidence for the FBI, state, local, and international agencies. His unit was the nation's first Lab to receive accreditation from the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) in the Forensic Audio, Forensic Video and Image Analysis disciplines. Unit Chief Lanser established the first Memorandum Of Understanding with the Metropolitan Police in London for exchange of expertise and personnel in the event of a terrorist attack, and his unit assisted the Metropolitan Police in the recovery of video evidence and identification of the subjects of the London Bombings in July, 2005. Unit Chief Lanser was also instrumental in the development of the FBI's Forensic Automatic Speaker Recognition (FASR) system, which the FBI utilized to identify recorded voices of criminals and terrorists, and for which his unit received the Director's Award for Excellence in Scientific Advancement in September 2007.

In February, 2008, Mr. Lanser was selected as Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge for the Criminal/Cyber Branch of the Buffalo Division. ASAC Lanser is married and has two daughters.
